Massage Techniques

I am honored and fortunate to have such trust placed in my work. I endeavor to earn and keep that trust in all that I do.

  • I use a variety of techniques that stem from myofascial release and neuromuscular therapy. I also use self-taught positional release and craniosacral massage techniques. As well as suggestions and input from clients about what works.
  • I use Myofascial Decompression or Massage Cupping to release adhesions between different structures and layers of tissue. I also use this to increase circulation and range of motion to needed areas.
  • I have developed a technique to access the proprioceptive system to facilitate deep relaxation, help with neuropathy and assist stroke sufferers regain sensation. It is called Connective Touch.
  • Using intra-oral and other techniques TMJ and headache relief have been a long time specialties of mine.
  • To enhance fascial release or to calm your nervous system I sometimes use a vibratory tool. This dual head/motor tool, Hitachi HVT-350, along with manual manipulation produces deep penetrating vibration to release deep seated adhesions.
  • I developed a “face lift” massage session that can help with bags under eyes, reduce “double chins” and reduce wrinkle lines.
  • Voice and musician “tuning” is directed at helping produce better resonance and projection for performers by identifying and resolving imbalances that are keeping them from producing the sounds/tones they want.
  • Lymph drainage for surgical or non-surgical clients to facilitate better circulation.
  • Visceral manipulation is also part of my practice to help with a variety of complaints from “simple” indigestion to IBS/Chron’s disease relief.

Whether it be running a marathon, dancing hula or just standing without pain the work that I do is centered around helping my clients achieve their goals.

“My rating for David is 10 out of 10. He knew exactly how and where to tackle my hip discomfort. After the first one hour session my ability to walk relatively pain free was a very welcome experience. Went back yesterday for a final tuneup. Rating hasn’t changed. Still over the top. Clean, neat and calming environment. See you next year David.”

Maui Massage Therapy Session Information

The following is a basic outline of what happens during all treatment sessions:

In short we will assessmanipulate soft tissue to address imbalance, reassess and if needed, repeat the process to get the results you want.

As our massage session begins we will discuss what issues you would like addressed and what your goals are for the session.

I will do an assessment of possible soft-tissue imbalances. Please note this assessment is not meant as a substitute for a medical doctor’s diagnosis. The assessment is used as a guide to help me plan your session and see if any changes have been effected over the course of our work together.

After the assessment I will ask you to disrobe and get on the massage table. I will, of course, vacate the treatment room. While the style of massage I practice needs skin to skin contact to be its most effective, you will be covered with a towel and / or sheet for the entire time we have our session.  You may also wear loose sports/exercise apparel or a swim suit. With that in mind I will ask you to only disrobe as needed to facilitate the accomplishment of our session goals.

When you indicate that you are ready, I will re-enter the treatment room.

During the session I will ask you to inform me of any changes in your condition. I will ask for direct feedback from you about how the techniques I am using feel to you, what your pain levels are, how the pain feels, and whether or not there has been a positive change, negative change or no effect on your pain levels or mobility. You have complete control over what we do.

You may ask me questions regarding technique or what I am palpating. I will do my best to answer you. From time to time I may ask you to adjust your position on the table. Or I may ask you to move different parts of your body.

When the session is over I will leave the treatment room and ask you to get up and put your clothes back on.

After you call me back to the room we will reassess and will discuss your condition again and our options for future sessions.

About Maui Massage Therapist David

Konea means restored to health in Hawaiian.

Maui Massage for Pain Relief

Thank you for your interest in konea massage and myself. My name is David Koerner (MAT-13603). I am the principal therapist and owner of konea massage.

I have been involved in bodywork/massage therapy since 2001. I was lucky enough to be inspired to take up these healing art forms through a chance conversation while working at the Denver Chamber of Commerce. From there I found a fantastic school, Center of Advanced Therapeutics, run by and staffed with great teachers.

My experience there has lead me to never stop being curious about massage techniques and the beauties, power and capacity of people.

It is from that curiosity that I practice. It is from that curiosity I seek out different experiences and perspectives to grow from. This has taken me to aikido dojos to the ocean to tea ceremony rooms to many diverse places to learn about how to find strength and suppleness in my clients and myself.

I do not see any session with a client as a “deep tissue” or “sports” or “relaxing” massage. All that matters is what my client needs on the day I see them and what goal they are working towards.

Mahalo for taking the time to find out a little about me and how I approach my passion.

Be well.
David
